En 2015, previa a la aprobación por la Asamblea General de la ONU de los Objetivos de Desarrollo Sostenible (ODS), en una declaración conjunta el FMI y los Bancos Multilaterales de Desarrollo declaraban: “Alcanzar los ODS requerirá movernos desde los billones a los trillones en recursos financieros. El cambio de paradigma nos exige un marco de financiación de muy amplio espectro capaz de canalizar todo tipo de recursos e inversiones, públicas y privadas, a nivel nacional y a nivel global”.

The article emphasizes the need for the financial system to be aligned with the necessary transition towards a more sustainable economic model. While sustainability has different dimensions (including social and governance), we concentrate our efforts on climate change, as it has attracted the need for urgent actions by financial markets and institutions, on ground of financial stability.

In the first place, the relationships that have been found regarding the link between financial inclusion and different aspects of economic development are presented.
