THE CIRCULAR SOCIOECONOMY AND ITS CONTRIBUTION TO A NEW SOCIAL CONTRACT

Eric J. Sawyer / Pedro Brandão da Silva Simões / Melissa Volpato Curi / Alexsandra Soares / Luís Tadeu Assad

This article aims to present the circular socioeconomy proposal, based on the already consolidated concept of circular economy and the experiences of projects executed in Brazil by the Brazilian Institute for Development and Sustainability - IABS: Mundaú Lagoon Ecosystem for Social Innovation. Considering the global socioenvironmental challenges and with the proposal to contribute to the discussions about a new social contract, the circular socioeconomy is based on the innovation of participative social processes to consolidate more inclusive, ethical and sustainable economic proposals. Using the circular economy’s important contribution in working with closed and circular systems, which centrally seek sustainable economic and environmental paths to deal with the exploitation of natural resources, waste production and disposal, the circular socioeconomy proposes to add to this system, in a more qualitative and structuring way, the social component, which becomes the promoter and driver for the transformation of reality.
